EMINA – Detection of entry and migration of nanoplastics in plants

In the EMINA project, the uptake, distribution and accumulation of micro- and nanoplastics in plants will be investigated.

The establishment and development of methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis is essential. At the end of the project, the results of the investigations should make it possible to draw initial conclusions about the ecological and economic impact of micro- and nanoplastics in plants and plant-based foodstuffs. In particular, the following questions will be addressed: i) does the uptake depend on the way the micro- and nanoplastics are introduced into the environment ii) which sizes of nanoplastics are preferentially taken up and accumulated in the plant iii) do different plants take up nanoplastics differently iv) does the chemical property of the nanoplastic play a role and v) does the particle size have an influence on the metabolism of the plant and thus on the quality of the plant food.
