The economic importance of smallholder agriculture and horticultural production and commercialization is increasing rapidly in this Central Asian transition country. As Kyrgyzstan joined the Eurasian Economic Union along with Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia, the stimulus for crop choice and export strategies of the Kyrgyz farmers might have changed.

During the sixth wave of data collection in 2019, the LiK Study will continue to collect detailed information on land use, crop choice, inputs, productivity, as well as marketing and export strategies. The data analysis allows an in-depth assessment of the long-term economic and nutritional benefits of horticultural production, commercialization and exports, as well as land use changes in Kyrgyzstan.
