The Status of Agriculture and Horticulture in the Aceh Region Before and After the Tsunami

The first workshop was held at the Syiah KualaUniversity in Banda Aceh on the 28th March, 2006. It comprised the introduction of the project partners and their potential for the support of the Tsunami Region Aceh. About 100 farmers, scientists, students, and representatives of national organizations attended the presentations of strategies, policies and challenges for agriculture and the social and economic situation of farmers in the Aceh region before and after the tsunami. Excursions to tsunami-affected areas also included the visit of potential model farms that are to be established within the Aculture project.

Soil Chemical Properties in Aceh, Methods of Phytoremediation, and Food Quality

A workshop was held from 19th to the 25th of February 2007 at the Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh. Presentation on the subject "Soil chemical properties in Aceh, methods of phytoremediation, and food quality" were held. Lectures that are planned to start in August 2007 were discussed and adapted to the conditions at the Syiah Kuala University.

SOIL MICROBIAL DIVERSITY AND BIOFERTILIZER TECHNOLOGY

The third Aculture-workshop was held from 29th of February until 2nd of March 2008 at the Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh. Topics as Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria, Effective Microorganisms (EM), the application of Biofertilizers and Mykorrhiza Technology were discussed. After the workshop, the Aculture-members visited ICRAF and the Soil Research Institute in Bogor and Tadulako University in Palu.
